If you follow us on Instagram, you may have seen our story on May 1st: the colour of the month! When I think of May, I think of magnolia trees and apple blossoms in bloom. So naturally I chose our dusty rose pink, Rhodonite, as the first colour from our recycled paint line, Refuge, for this new series. Scroll through this blog for inspiration to add pink to your home. Up-cycle a thrifted furniture piece, paint an accent wall, or revamp your old chicken coop. Yes, a chicken coop! Read on and be sure to let me know what your favourite one is.
Up-cycle & Upgrade
Your first instinct on how to use pink in your home may be to brighten up a young girl’s room. That’s what Leanne at @paint_paste_prosecco did with this dresser she up-cycled! What once was a piece that had seen better days is now a darling pink addition to a dreamy bedroom.
Splish Splash!
Let’s go a little bolder- pink TILE! Georgina (@athomewiththeraines) renovated her bathroom and chose a soft pink to match the deep green on her walls and DIY bathtub panelling. This combo is seriously working- we might have to try a project of our own using Rhodonite and Malachite!
“I don’t know if I could ever go without…”
Watermelon sugar, HI! Meg at @megmonde also got the green & pink memo- but this time with pink as the star and green in the supporting role. (The true star of the photo is her adorable pup, let’s be real). The white strip along the top of her pink walls adds modern flair to this space, and I’m here for it!!
Knock, Knock
Make it known in your neighbourhood that you’re the coolest house on the block with a pink front door! How can you not love Rachy’s (@ohmyedwardian) entryway with a door like that? Paired with her mosaic tile flooring, fun art prints, and adorable rabbit door knocker it’s sure to bring a smile to your face.
Florals for spring?
Are you a fan of wallpaper? It’s a great way to zone your living space if you have a smaller area to work with. We wrote about zoning with peel and stick wallpaper here! Lily (@layered.home) is a big fan of wallpaper, as you can see from these gorgeous rooms in her chic London home. Tie pink into your home by using a print with a pink background, or pull pink from a floral print you love and use it as an accent wall!
Contrast in the Kitchen
Itching to spice up a different room in your home? Why not the kitchen! Eniko at @mydarkhome_ chose a pink island in her kitchen to contrast with her other black cupboards. It’s the perfect pop of colour! Her pink glass light fixtures and pink tufted barrel chair are the perfect matches.
Take it Outside
Bring pink into your outdoor spaces and don’t be afraid to get creative with it! I came across Peggy Kurz’s backyard on The Cottage Journal and fell in LOVE. A pink porch swing? Yes, please!! Adding to the bucket list. See the article on her shabby chic backyard here.
Cock-a-doodle-doo!
Last but not least: PINK. CHICKEN. COOP! If I was a chicken I’d want to live here. Emily (@emilyyew.co) revamped her hen house and we’re obsessed!! Check out the full makeover on her blog, Yew Photography.
I hope after reaching the end of this blog you’re inclined to try a project with pink in your home! If you’re still unsure, order a sample of Rhodonite and test it out in a small space and let it grow on you. (Our sample jars are the cutest little samples you’ll ever receive, and that’s a promise!) Be sure to keep an eye out for June’s colour of the month on the first!
