Although the fluting trend took off in 2019, it’s still going strong. Fluting adds modern texture to any space that needs a little *something something*. It’s a fairly simple DIY project as well, just pick up some dowels in the shape you like best and glue them tightly together on the surface of choice. If you love the look and want to hop on this interior trend, read on for some fluting DIY ideas!
Vanity Makeover
Does your bathroom vanity need a revamp? Add some fluting to the cupboards! Meagan at @meaganmarquisliving added some fluted molding on her vanity door fronts in her guest bathroom and the result is DIVINE! Meagan used our recycled paint in magical Malachite to take the whole DIY a level up. If this is a project you’d like to take on, be sure to check out her “Guest bath” highlight on her Instagram for cabinet painting tips, a step-by-step tutorial, and gorgeous content!
Night Stand Glow-Up
Check out the transformation of Mara’s (@thehummingbirddigs) IKEA nightstand! The fluting & gold hardware upgrade is SO good, but the green paint is even better! We love to see furniture glow-up. Can this be a TikTok trend to show off furniture pieces that have undergone multiple DIYs? I want more!!
A Podium for Your Twisted Candles
If adding fluting to a bigger piece of furniture isn’t something you’d like to try, start small! Jenn at @jennys_old_house made these darling fluted candle holders that call her mantle home. I’m always scouring Facebook Marketplace for vintage candle holders for my twisted taper candles, so when I came across this DIY craft I felt like I scored! See Jenn’s designer blog here.
IKEA Bed Hack
Laura (@knapptime_crafts) flipped her IKEA Kura bed (literally) and brought it to life with fluting details and our green recycled paint, Malachite! Laura could be crowned the queen of fluting after this awesome DIY as well as her fluted vanity. She used another one of our recycled paints in Grey Agate, and added gold accents to a vanity that’s now fit for royalty. See her IG reel here!
Show-Stopping Side Table
Does this DIY look straight out of a magazine or what?! @aliceandlois created this adorable side table half round molding pine, a 12-inch birch circle board, birch wood veneer edging, a hand saw, a compact circular saw, wood glue, clamps, iron, scissors, and a sanding block. Not bad, eh? See the full blog post on this project here.
A Vase for Every Season
The final fluted DIY I had to share was Zoe’s (@craftedbythehunts) fluted vase. She took this simple craft a step further by staining the wooden dowels a darker shade, which gives the vase a slightly more expensive look. I’m into it! Use this decor piece year round by styling it with your favourite greenery of the season. See the blog post about her vase here.
